Double Standard.

Bryan Bergman, Double Standard

Another recent addition to downtown San Antonio is Double Standard. Located on the corner of Houston and Soledad in the former Rosella at the Rand spot, this all day, everyday hangout has quickly gained a reputation for solid food and insane drink specials.

How insane? They have a steak lunch on Fridays with $1 martinis. One. Dollar. Martinis. That’s not a typo. It would be cooler if they were using Kinsman in the martinis, but ya can’t have everything, I suppose.

But what you can have is the Standard Alexander, a dairy-free take on the classic dessert cocktail brought to you by Bryan Bergman. A San Antonio native, Bryan’s been in the industry since he was 16. We neglected to ask where he went to high school, but what we did learn is that during his off time, Bryan likes to pin butterflies. That’s pretty interesting, right?

Bryan channels his inner if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it with the Standard Alexander which includes equal parts Kinsman, crème de cacao and a dairy free cream. Nothing wrong with sticking to the script. It didn’t become a beloved classic cocktail by accident, and the Standard Alexander delivers that sweet, chocolately goodness you expect in a Brandy Alexander.

Visit Bryan now through NYE and enjoy his take on the dessert classic. Maybe bring him a pint of his favorite ice cream (cookie two step) for good measure, and ask him yourself which high school he went to.
