Maverick Texas Brasserie.
Maverick Texas Brasserie has been a cornerstone of the San Antonio dining scene since opening in 2018. With French recipes prepared in the Texas-rule breaking spirit, it’s easy to see why San Antonio’s original brasserie has become a beloved Southtown staple. Throw in an excellent bar program, and it’s also easy to see why Maverick’s been a fan favorite on the Kinsman Brandy Alexander Tour for years.
This year is no different with Afton Montgomery creating a unique take on the classic dessert cocktail. A proud mamma of “two lovable monsters”, Darcy, a husky mix named after Mr. Darcy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and Zeus, an aptly named rescue mutt, Afton, living in Houston at the time, decided that the corporate world just wasn’t her cup of tea.
This DFW-area native’s post-MBA life began with a stint at Houston’s HP offices before hitting a reset button and returning to her college passion of coffee and hospitality. Living in The Heights mere blocks from then just opened Down House, a Houston coffee staple, Afton quickly transitioned out of the office cube and behind the bar. With her cocktail wits honed in the midst of the Houston cocktail boom, she relocated to San Antonio in 2017 for Hot Joy’s Tiki launch, and we’re sure glad she did!
Her Alexander de Noel brings together Kinsman Rakia, Green Chartreuse, heavy cream and a house orgeat made with pecans, toasted coconut and cardamom. A rosemary sprig laid across a coupe perfectly captures all things on brand for the holiday season and this Southtown brasserie.
