Signature continues to maintain a well-deserved reputation as one of the best restaurants in San Antonio. The kitchen’s contemporary interpretation of classic dishes transfers effortlessly over to the bar program which has been a staple on the Tour since 2017. And that’s exactly what the Kinsman Brandy Alexander Tour is all about: contemporary takes on a classic!
This year we have Sheila Stone to thank for Great Expectations, her twist on the classic Brandy Alexander. Sheila was going for a cocktail reminiscent of eggnog, without having to actually use eggnog, and she definitely succeeded. Named after the famous Charles Dickens novel, this cocktail shines with notes of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and vanilla.
Mozart Chocolate Liqueur adds a tinge of caramel and cocoa butter and rounds out the creamy, velvety texture of the cocktail. Rainbow sprinkles on the rim of an elegant Nick and Nora glass provide a little lighthearted razzle-dazzle to an otherwise very serious cocktail. If you can resist, let the cocktail sit for awhile to see the rainbow colors streak down the side of the glass making Great Expectations one of the most picturesque cocktails on the tour.
But enough about the cocktail, can we talk about Sheila Stone for a second? This badass has lived a life I can only dream of. I mean…how many people can say they’ve partied with Queen?!? Sheila was a Playboy Bunnie for the Playboy Club in Chicago and Dallas and had plenty of stories to share about her time there. Apparently, if you lived in Dallas in the 80s and didn’t have fun, you weren’t there. But Sheila was there, and it sounds like she definitely enjoyed it referring to her time at the club as “the best eight years of my life.” Sort of made me jealous…
Visit Sheila now through NYE and order a Great Expectations or two and let her tell you all about how fun the 80s were. I bet you too will feel slightly jealous, or, like Katie, maybe you can relate.
Great Expectations.
1 oz. Kinsman Rakia
1 oz. Heavy Cream
3/4 oz. Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur
3/4 oz. St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
1/4 oz. Giffard Vanille de Madagascar
1 dash of Tiki Bitters
Instructions. Combine all ingredients in a tin over ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass.
Garnish. Rainbow sprinkled rim and freshly grated allspice.
