Liberty Bar.

Maddie Turner, Liberty Bar

San Antonio staple Liberty Bar has been the go-to spot for serious food since 1985. Things are equally serious behind the bar, as we discovered while chatting with Maddie Turner and Craig Goldschmidt, the duo behind the Brew-ty & Charm.

Maddie, a San Antonio local who may or may not have gone to Alamo Heights, is a veteran of the service industry who, like Craig, apparently knows a thing or two about cocktails. Their Brew-ty & Charm (named after a Liberty Bar slogan btw) is a tasty, coffee-forward sipper that could easily turn into a gulper. We’ve all been there…

Craig, a Long Island native, had another name in mind for the cocktail….a secret Spaceballs reference that didn’t make the cut, unfortunately. Could have been comedic genius. I guess we will never know; although, the current name probably more accurately describes the cocktail.

The focus is definitely on the brew here. Cold brew that is….no beer, but that would be cool too! In fact, coffee used in the cocktail comes from Copper Door Coffee Roasters, a 100% female owned coffee roaster from Denver CO. that highlights women produced coffee. Now you can enjoy a delicious cocktail and feel good about supporting women doing amazing work.

Both Maddie and Craig enjoy a glass of wine at the house from time to time (this guy does too! omg we’re practically besties), and we’d say they deserve their wine after carefully crafting this take on the classic Brandy Alexander. Check out one of Southtown’s favorite hangout spots and try a Brew-ty & Charm now through NYE.
