Richter Tavern.
The Kinsman Brandy Alexander Tour is taking over the world! Ok well maybe not, but we have made it to Boerne, which is basically the same thing. Why Boerne? Because Richter Tavern, the oldest bar in the Texas Hill Country, is there.
The 1920’s industrial themed restaurant is located in a 100 year old historic building in downtown Boerne and serves up American-inspired cuisine and craft cocktails (and HighWheel beer) that makes it well worth the short trip up I-10. Plus, the servers wear kilts, so…there’s that.
If that’s not enticing enough, here’s this: Mike Rogers is the Beverage Director. THE Mike Rogers. That’s right…Vegas himself runs the bar program here, so of course it’s gonna be quality! Everybody knows that…
And everyone knows Mike’s creative behind the bar, but here’s one thing you might not know. He’s creative on the other side of the bar too. Since 2012, he’s been a published author with the release of Chivalry is Undead, the first book in his Just Another Zombie Love Story trilogy. My Brother’s Keeper, second in the series, is already out with the final book, Public Displays of Infection, expected to come out next May. I haven’t read the books yet, so I can’t tell you if they’re any good, but if his cocktails are any indication, the books are probably pretty solid.
But back to his creativity behind the bar. Mike’s take on the Brandy Alexander includes sour cream, which, if memory serves me right (rarely does), is a first for the Tour. But it definitely works (omg, it actually tastes good!!). It adds a creamy acidity to the cocktail that plays nicely with the crème de cacao and enhances the tanginess of the raspberry liqueur. When asked how he came up with the recipe, he nonchalantly replied, “I just threw it together.” Ok fine, we get it….you’re a badass. Stop showing off!
But flaunt it if you got it, I suppose, and Mike and co at Richter Tavern certainly got it. Pay them a visit now through NYE, sip on a You’re a Fine Girl and you tell me if the flaunting is justified.
