Sojourn Trading Co.
Recently opened Sojourn Trading Co. is the latest cocktail bar to pop up in downtown San Antonio. Housed in the former Juniper Tar location, the space has been completely renovated with a more relaxed, tropical getaway vibe to it.
And there’s a familiar face behind the bar too. Ricardo Ruiz is an old Kinsman Brandy Alexander Tour hand from his days at Hoppy Monk. Oh you don’t know Ricardo? I got you covered.
An El Paso native, Ricardo moved to San Antonio in 2014 to help launch the Hoppy Monk San Antonio. He landed his first service industry job waaaaay back in the day at 19 years old and got into bartending because he was interested in the creative aspect of the job.
He’s also team werewolf (sorry vampire fans) if that’s actually a thing, a jiu jitsu enthusiast, and came damn close to killing Boyan once upon a time, which is a story you’ll have to ask Ricardo about.
When he’s not trying to kill Boyan, he spends his time enjoying agave spirits and has taken several trips to Oaxaca to learn all about (and sip on) mezcal. Considering his love of mezcal and other agave spirits, you’d think he would include it in his Brandy Alexander, but instead he opted for another traditional Mexican favorite: Tres leches!
It’s the house-made tres leches liqueur that brings this cocktail to life. Ricardo went for a slightly different take on the classic dessert by combining sugar, oat milk, coconut cream, and vanilla, but it still tastes like the tres leches we all know and love. But don’t take my word for it. Pop into Sojourn now through NYE and give the Tres Leches Brandy Alexander a try.
